Women's Tennis Continues Spring Break Trip with Win over Lehigh

The Emory University women's tennis team continued its spring break trip Wednesday morning, defeating Lehigh University, 6-1, at Eastern Florida State College in Melbourne, FL. The third-ranked Eagles improved to 6-3 with the win while the Mountain Hawks dropped to 6-6 overall.

Playing by Division I rules, Emory took two of the three doubles matches to claim the doubles point to lead off the match. Freshmen Alexa Goetz and Katelyn Thomas ran their spring record to 9-0 following an 8-5 decision on court three and one court one, junior Stephanie Taylor and sophomore Christina Watson cruised to an 8-2 victory.

In singles, the Eagles came away with wins in five of the six matches including three match wins via straight sets. Notching straight set wins during the morning were Goetz on court two (6-1, 6-3), sophomore Emma Cartledge at fourth singles (6-2, 7-5) and sophomore Lauren Yoon at the sixth position (7-5, 6-2).

Watson and sophomore Jessica Fatemi rounded out the singles wins for the Eagles, picking up victories in three sets. At third singles, Watson was a 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 winner and on court five, Fatemi dropped the first set 6-3 before rallying to win the next two 6-2, 7-5.

Emory is back at home Sunday afternoon with a scrimmage against neighbor Georgia State University (3:00 PM) before hosting the Fab 6 tournament, beginning Thursday, March 26.
