Emory Women's Tennis Cruises Past Rhode Island, 5-0, in NCAA Second Round

The Emory University women's tennis team fashioned a 5-0 victory over Rhode Island College in the NCAA Second Round Saturday afternoon at Life Time Fitness in Peachtree Corners, GA.

The win sets up a meeting with Williams College in the regional finals Sunday afternoon with a berth to the NCAA Championships on the line. First serve is scheduled to begin at 3:00 PM in Peachtree Corners. The Ephs took down John Carroll, 5-0, in the early regional semifinal on Saturday.

The Eagles opened the match, dropping just one game across three matches as Emory swept doubles play in 30 minutes. At third doubles, Ana Cristina Perez and Lauren Yoon were first to finish, posting the 8-0 victory. Stephanie Taylor and Christina Watson followed suit soon after, with an 8-0 victory of their own on court two. Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico and Katie Chang closed out the doubles trifecta, claiming the 8-1 win on the No. 1 court.

For singles, the Eagles saw clinching match points on courts six and five as Jessica Fatemi and Perez clinched the second round win for the team. Fatemi was first to finish with her 6-0, 6-0 whitewashing on court six before Perez ended the match with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at the fifth spot.

At the conclusion of the match, Emory held leads in all four remaining singles matches with Gonzalez-Rico 6-1, 3-0 at first singles, Watson 6-1, 4-0 at second singles, Taylor 6-1, 3-0 at third singles and Defne Olcay 6-0, 3-1 at fifth singles.
