Emory Women's Tennis Earns Berth to NCAA Quarterfinals with 5-0 Win Over Williams

The Emory University women's tennis team is headed to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the 13th contested season following its 5-0 victory over Williams College in the regional final Sunday afternoon at Life Time Fitness in Peachtree Corners, GA.

The Eagles will be one of eight teams remaining when the final rounds of the NCAA Championships begin next Monday, May 24th in Chattanooga, TN. Emory is slated to face Southwestern (TX) in the NCAA Quarterfinals with a match start time of 11:00 AM that Monday morning.

Sunday afternoon opened with another Emory sweep in the doubles portion of the match. Ana Cristina Perez and Lauren Yoon made quick work of their Williams counterparts on the third court, earning the 8-1 win to start the scoring. Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico and Katie Chang later followed with an 8-5 win at the No. 1 position before Stephanie Taylor and Christina Watson finished the sweep with a tiebreaker win at the No. 2 spot, 8-7 (1).

A withdrawal due to injury on the sixth line gave Emory a 4-0 advantage heading into singles play, needing just one win to clinch the victory. Perez ended the match for the Eagles with her 6-2, 6-0 decision at fourth singles, narrowly edging out two other matches for the clinching point.

Taylor and Defne Olcay were both one game away from wins when the match was halted with Taylor leading 6-4, 5-2 at No. 3 singles and Olcay in front 6-0, 5-2 on court five. The Eagles also held the edge on court two with Watson leading her match 6-2, 4-1.

The NCAA Championships will be hosted at the Champions Tennis Club in Chattanooga, TN.
