Emory Women's Track & Field Take Third at UAA Championships

The Emory University Women's Track and Field team recorded a third place team finish at the University Athletic Association Outdoor Championships this weekend in Chicago. Illinois.

The Eagles scored 140.5 points behind 12 All-UAA performances and one event title. Washington University were crowned team champions with 213.5 points with host University of Chicago scoring 182.5. The third place showing by the Eagles marked the 14th consecutive time an Emory team finished inside the top-three at the UAA Outdoor Championships.

Sophomores Dilys Osei, Dani Bland, Ariana Newhouse and junior Julia Leventhal collected the Eagles lone event title as the group took home gold in the 4x100m Relay, finishing with a time of 47.27.

Newhouse was an All-UAA performer in three additional events to lead the Eagles. She anchored the 4x400m along with Osei, junior Erica Goldman and freshman Kaitlyn Leonard that came in second in a time of 3:54.14 and was third in both the 400m Dash (56.63) and 200m Dash (24.97).

In the 200m Dash, Bland broke her own school record with a time of 24.46 as she placed second in the event. Earlier in the afternoon, she registered a second place finish in the 100m Dash in a wire-to-wire race. Bland clocked in at 11.93 but was narrowly edged out by WashU's Daisy Ogede (11.89).

The Eagles medaled in an additional five events over the weekend. On Saturday, senior Mia Eisenhandler took third in the 3000m Steeplechase in a personal-best time of 11:16.90 and on Sunday, Osei placed second in the 400m Hurdles with a career-best mark of 1:03.48. Junior Gabrielle Stravach clocked in at 4:38.26 for second place in the 1500m Run before taking third in the 800m Run in a PR time of 2:14.82.

Freshman Nyla Lindo and sophomore Paris Wagner paced the Eagles in the field events, both notching second place showings. Lindo turned in a personal-best 11.32m in the triple jump, a mark that places second in program history. Wagner earned All-Association honors in the discus for the second straight year, registering a personal-best distance of 37.40m.
