The Emory University Track and Field teams travel to Chicago, Illinois for the 2017 University Athletic Association Championships on Saturday, April 22nd and Sunday, April 23rd.
The 2017 UAA Championships are set to begin at 10:00 AM central standard time on Saturday with the women’s hammer, men’s long jump, men’s shot put and women’s pole vault finals. On Sunday, the women’s triple jump, men’s high jump, women’s discus, women’s javelin begin the morning events, starting at 10:00 AM local time. Events continue throughout the afternoon, culminating with the men’s and women’s 4x400m Relay at 2:20 PM with the awards ceremony to follow at 2:40 PM.
The women’s team looks to build on their impressive showing at last year’s Championships as the Eagles finished second in 2016. Sophomores Ariana Newhouse (400m Dash) and Dani Bland (100m Dash) will try to defend their event titles while a total of nine athletes return who were All-UAA finishers at last year’s meet. The group includes Newhouse (200 and 400m Dashes), Bland (100m Dash, 4x100m Relay), junior Erica Goldman (400m Dash), junior Julia Leventhal (100m Dash, 4x100m Relay), sophomore Kayla O’Shea (4x800m Relay), sophomore Dilys Osei (110m Hurdles, 4x100m Relay), junior Gabrielle Stravach (1500m Run, 4x800m relay), sophomore Clare Ubersax (4x800m Relay) and sophomore Paris Wagner (Discus).
On the men’s side, junior Benjamin Rogin is the lone returning champion from last year’s squad that placed fourth overall at the championship meet as he earned top honors in the 110m Hurdles. Other All-UAA finishers returning with Rogin include junior Max Brown (1500m Run), junior Max Helfman (4x100m Relay), junior Charlie Hu (Triple Jump), and senior Kyle Veator (Long Jump, 4x100m and 4x400m Relay).
