Emory Women Finish First, Men Take Third at Berry Field Day Invitational

The Emory University track and field teams sent most of its team members to the two-day Berry Field Day Invitational this weekend. The women’s team recorded nine event wins en route to a first-place team finish with 183.5 points while the men’s team finished third with 99 points.

The Eagles opened with the meet by scoring three event wins Friday afternoon, two on the women’s side and one for the men’s. For the women, Alex Devaux came in first among scored competitors with her season-best hammer throw mark of 44.53m and on the track, Abby Durfee led the pack of runners in the 5000m with her time of 18:53.72. For the men, Matthew Burke raced to a time of 34:09.00 to win the 10000m Run.

On Saturday, the Eagles dominated in the women’s field events, earning five victories: Laura Sheckter in the shot put (12.39m), Hope Jackson in the discus (38.92m), Rebekah Bondi in the long jump (5.38m), Isabel Saridakis in the pole vault (3.21m) and Taylor Robinson in the javelin (35.71m).

On the track, the Emory women netted two more event wins on Saturday with Claire Evans taking first in the 400m Hurdles with her time of 1:06.83 and the 4x100m Relay featuring Bondi, Michelle Rosenblum, Jessica Barbarosh and Hannah Lansberry with their time of 48.78.

The Eagles also saw a few event season-best times turned in on day two by the women with Christina Dwier in the 3000m Steeplechase (2nd, 12:31.95), Amaya Martin in the 100m Hurdles (3rd, 15.98) and Lansberry in the 400m Dash (3rd, 1:00.53).

More top event finishes for the women’s unit included: Bondi in the 100m Dash (2nd, 12.44), Ticia King in the pole vault (3rd, 3.06m), Ana Morris in the 1500m Run (5th, 4:52.46), Lauren Musachia in the high jump (T-6th, 1.37m), Lucy Hansen in the 800m Run (7th, 2:25.16), Barbarosh in the 200m Dash (3rd, 26.57) and the 4x400m team of Lansberry, Evans, Libby Ranocha and Sydney Mercurio (2nd, 4:09.99).

Kenya Sei headlined the Emory men’s team with a pair of season-best times in the hammer and discus events. On Friday, Sei posted the fourth-best mark ever in team history with his 49.64m throw to finish second in the hammer before returning with a 40.36m discus mark to finish second on Saturday.

JonCarlo Migaly had a season-best jump of 6.52m as he came in fourth the long jump while Ben Kronman recorded an event season-best mark of 12.50m to take fifth Friday afternoon in the triple jump.

Other notable top event finishers for the men’s side were: Andrew Pahnke in the 1500m Run (2nd, 4:00.58), Neil Mosca in the 5000m Run (3rd, 15:52.10), Patrick Osborne in the pole vault (4th, 4.13m), Holden Ringer in the 3000m Steeplechase (3rd, 9:59.55), Thomas Davis in the 100m Dash (5th, 11.17), Jon Marcus in the 800m Run (2nd, 1:57.51) and Jacob Solomon in the 200m Dash (23.35).

Emory will be back in action next weekend with the Georgia Tech Invitational on April 16th and 17th.
