Laura Sheckter Tops Own School Record on Day One of Georgia Tech Invite

The Emory University track and field teams had an all-around strong showing Friday night as the Georgia Tech Invitational got underway in downtown Atlanta.

Emory is one of 17 schools competing at the meet along with Alabama-Huntsville, Augusta, Boston College, Charleston Southern, Chattanooga, Clark Atlanta, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Georgia Tech, Hillsdale College, Jacksonville State, Kennesaw State, Lee, Mississippi College, Transylvania and Valdosta State.

For the women, Laura Sheckter eclipsed her school record in the shot put as she finished eighth with a throw of 12.97m. Her mark bested her previous program top mark of 12.84m that she set earlier this spring at the Panther Invitational on March 21st.

Rebekah Bondi and Annika Urban moved into the top 10 all-time in school history in their respective events as Bondi recorded a personal best in the long jump at 5.56m, tying her for 10th place all-time while Urban ran a 4:36.76 in the 1500m Run which is the 10th fastest time ever and the second fastest all-time by an individual. Bondi also turned in a season best mark in the 100m Dash as she took fifth in the event at 12.09.

Amaya Martin added a season best time in the 100m Hurdles as she crossed the finish line at 15.64, leading a pair of Eagles under the 16-seconds mark as Claire Evans ran a 15.81 on the evening.

For the men, Kenya Sei recorded the second-best throw in school history in the hammer as he placed fifth Friday night with a mark of 51.70m. Jacob Hedgepeth moved into the top-10 all-time in the 1500m Run as he ran the fifth-fastest time ever at 3:52.72.

JonCarlo Migaly posted a pair of season best marks on day one of the meet, running a 11.00 in the 100m Dash before recording a 6.75m mark in the long jump. Holden Ringer added a personal season best time of 9:49.04 in the 3000 Steeplechase.
