Emory Track & Field Garners Three UAA Athlete of the Week Awards

The Emory University track & field teams garnered three University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week Awards as announced Monday afternoon. Annika Urban and Rebekah Bondi swept both honors on the women’s side while Jack Whetstone was the recipient of the men’s outdoor track honor.

It is the second career weekly track and field honor for both Bondi and Whetstone while this marks the first for Urban in her career.

Urban established a school record in the 5000m Run Friday afternoon at the Flames Invitational, placing fifth (1st among non-DII) in the event at 17:14.41. Her new program top time was good enough to vault her to 5th in the Division III rankings after the weekend.

Bondi was one of six Eagles on the women's side to win field events as Emory won the team competition at the Berry Field Day Invitational over the weekend. Bondi took first in the long jump with her mark of 5.38m, her second-best mark on the season in the event. In addition, Bondi took part in two track events, helping the Eagles to a win in the 4x100m Relay with a team time of 48.78 and was second among non-unattached athletes in the 100m Dash, running a time of 12.44.

Whetstone recorded a personal-best time in the 5000m Run Friday afternoon at the Flames Invitational. His time of 14:38.99 was the fifth-fastest in school history and was good enough to place him sixth nationally in the event following the weekend.

The trio as well as the rest of the Eagles return to action this weekend with the Georgia Tech Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
