Fineman Wins UAA Shot Put Title; Emory Women Sit Third After Day One

The Emory University women's track & field day finished the first day of competition at the UAA Outdoor Championships in St. Louis, MO in third place and with four All-UAA performers.

The Eagles generated 44 points to finish day one in third place with eight total events having been scored thus far. Host school WashU sits atop the leaderboard with 96 total points while Chicago trails just behind with 90 points.

Freshman Sarah Fineman saved her best performance of the season for the championship meet as she won the UAA championship in the shot put with a distance of 12.62m. Fineman's distance is the best of her career and the sixth best in program history. Senior Alex Devaux also finished with All-UAA honors for her performance in the hammer throw where she hit a distance of 49.24m to finish in third. Elsewhere on the field, freshman Dana Catalano earned her first ever All-UAA award posting a distance of 36.09m in the javelin throw to earn a second place finish.

On the track, the 4x800 relay team of sophomore Libby Ranocha, sophomore Lily Taylor, senior Lauren Cunild and junior Annika Urban registered a third place finish after posting a time of 9:19.31. The team earned All-UAA recognition for their performance and also finished with the fifth fastest time in program history.

Other scorers for the Eagles included juniors Peyton Rees (43.09m) and Hope Jackson (11.02m) who finished in sixth place in the hammer throw and shot put, respectively. Freshman Alexandra Feurer recorded a fifth place finish in the pole vault event after registering a height of 3.30m. Freshman Savannah Haushalter, competing in the 3,000m steeplechase, crossed the finish line in 11:49.08 for a sixth place finish. Rounding out scoring for the Eagles on day one was freshman McKaley Yost who scored an additional point for her eighth place finish in the long jump.

The Eagles had nine total athletes qualify for Sunday's finals with their performances in Saturday's prelim events. Junior Claire Evans qualified for both the 400m hurdles (1:04.63, 2nd seed) and the 100m hurdles (15.42, 6th seed). Yost also qualified in the 100m hurdle and comes into the final seeded seventh. Freshman Kaya Binetti qualified for two finals events on Sunday: the 200m dash (25.47, 8th seed) and the 100m dash (12.38m, 4th seed). Joining Binetti in tomorrow's 100m dash final are senior Jessica Barbarosh, sophomore Ella Lavelle and freshman Mina Leopold. Both Ranocha (58.00, 3rd seed) and freshman Dashiel Tao Harris (58.09, 4th seed) turned in performances that earned them a spot in tomorrow's 400m dash final. Finally, Cunlid, who already has one All-UAA honor under her belt at this meet, qualified for the 800m run final on the back of her seventh place, 2:18.87 second performance in Saturday's preliminary.

The Eagles are back in action tomorrow morning for the final day of the UAA Outdoor Championships with the first event set to get underway at 10:00 AM in St. Louis, MO.
