2021-22 Women's Indoor Track & Field Season Recap

2021-22 Women's Indoor Track & Field Season Recap

The 2021-22 Emory University women's indoor track & field team had a successful season, finishing the year with 15 USTFCCCA All-Region athletes and two All-UAA performers.

The Eagles saw 15 student-athletes combine for 24 All-Region selections which is the most selections Emory has earned since the 2018-19 season. Seniors Lauren Cunild, Bella Racette and sophomore Lily Taylor paced the Eagles with three All-Region accolades apiece. Cunild and Taylor were named All-Region in the 800m run, the mile and as part of the DMR team along with Racette and freshman Paige Murdock. Racette earned her other two All-Region nods in the 3,000m run and 5,000m run. Also earning All-Region acclaim on the track were junior Lauren Anshen, freshman Jenna Daly and sophomore Libby Ranocha in the 800m run, junior Claire Evans and sophomore Amaya Martin in the 60m hurdle, freshman Dashiel Tao Harris in the 400m dash, freshman Liesel Scherrer in the 5,000m run and Evans, Harris, Murdock and freshman Mina Leopold in the 4x400 relay.

All-Region honorees on the field for the Eagles include senior Alex Devaux in the weight throw, freshman Sarah Fineman in the shot put and freshman Caroline Hansen in the triple jump.

In addition to the student-athletes generating All-Region success, Head Coach Linh Nguyen was named the USTFCCCA South/Southeast Coach of the Year which marks the second time he has won this award as the head coach of the women's program.

At the University Athletic Association Championships held in Cleveland, OH the team saw two athletes put together All-UAA performances in two events while the team scored 45.5 points to finish in fourth place at the meet.

Devaux earned her All-UAA accolade in the weight throw event where her distance of 16.23m set the new program record and saw her capture the UAA title. Fineman was recognized with an All-UAA nod for her second place performance in the shot put.

The Eagles earned one UAA Athlete of the Week selection during the 2021-22 season when Cunild won the mile event at the BSC Icebreaker meet with a time of 5:13.58 which at the time was the eighth fastest time in the nation.

Rounding out awards for the Eagles were the 21 student-athletes who were named to the UAA Winter All-Academic Team which was the fourth highest total amongst all winter sports. Highlighting that list were junior Annika Urban and senior Hannah Lansberry who were also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team for Cross Country/Track & Field which recognizes student-athletes for their combined athletic and academic accomplishments.

The Eagles will see the departure of graduating seniors Cunild, Racette, Devaux, Lansberry, Jessica Barbarosh, Oceane De Greef and Eileen Laverty.
