The 2022 outdoor women's track & field team turned in strong performances throughout the season resulting in one student-athlete qualifying for two events at the NCAA DIII Championships, 15 All-Region performers and eight All-UAA selections.
Junior Annika Urban built upon her All-American cross country season to become the lone All-American for the 2022 Emory track & field program. By virtue of her top 20 national finish in both the 5,000m run (14th) and 1,500m run (17th) during the regular season Urban qualified for the NCAA DIII Championships. Urban had a phenomenal championship meet as she qualified for the 1,500m run final eventually coming in sixth place overall with a personal best time of 4:30.99 earning her first All-American honor in track. Later the same afternoon she competed in the 5,000m run final where she came in tenth place, crossing the finish line with a time of 16:56.71.
A strong season saw the Eagles with 15 different student-athletes combine to earn 21 All-Region accolades as awarded by the USTFCCCA, the most for Emory since the USTFCCCA started giving out All-Region awards in 2016. Urban earned two All-Region selections for her performances in the 1,500m run and 5,000m run. Freshman Dashiel Tao Harris led all Eagles with three selections which she earned in the 400m dash and both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays. Other All-UAA performers on the track included sophomore Ella Lavelle, senior Jessica Barbarosh and freshman Kaya Binetti in the 4x100 relay, Binetti, sophomore Libby Ranocha and senior Hannah Lansberry in the 4x400 relay, Ranocha in the 400m dash, sophomore Lily Taylor and senior Lauren Cunild in the 800m run, senior Bella Racette in the 5,000m run, Racette and freshman Savannah Haushalter in the 3,000m steeplechase and junior Claire Evans in the 400m hurdles.
All-Region performers on the field included junior Hope Jackson in the discus throw, freshman Sarah Fineman in shot put and senior Alex Devaux in the hammer throw.
The Eagles turned in a third place performance at the 2022 UAA Championships matching their most recent result from the 2019 season. At the championships, 12 Eagles combined to earn eight total All-UAA honors. Urban again earned two All-UAA honors, one for her performance in the 5,000m run and another as a member of the 4x800 relay team along with Ranocha, Taylor and Cunild. Evans picked up an All-UAA honor for her showing in the 400m hurdles while the 4x400 relay team of Harris, Ranocha, Binetti and Lansberry picked up the last All-UAA honor on the track for the Eagles.
On the field, Jackson earned a first place finish and an All-UAA honor after posting a distance of 42.06m in the discus throw. Fineman also registered the farthest distance at the championships in earning an All-UAA honor in the shot put. Elsewhere on the field, Devaux earned All-UAA honors in the hammer throw while freshman Dana Catalano earned her first ever All-UAA accolade in the javelin throw.
The Eagles were awarded two UAA Athlete of the Week awards over the course of the outdoor season. Racette picked up the first for the Eagles for her showing in the 1,500m run at Emory's first meet of the spring season. Urban picked up the other honor for the Eagles with her performance in the 1,500m run at the Montreat College Last One Best One meet that qualified her for the NCAA Championships.
The last of the awards that The Eagles secured this year were for the 21 student-athletes on the women's track & field team that landed on the Spring UAA All-Academic Team, the second most of any of Emory's spring sports. Highlighting this list were Urban and Lansberry who were both also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team for Cross Country/Track & Field.
