Emory Volleyball Sweeps Maryville

The No. 4-ranked Emory volleyball team captured its third straight win on Friday evening with a victory at home over Maryville College.  The Eagles raised their record to 17-2 overall following a 3-0 verdict (25-12, 25-12, 25-14) over the Scots who slipped to 8-9.

Emory's defense stifled the Maryville attack, holding the visitors to a -.131 (12-23—84) hitting percentage while the Eagles countered with an effort of .333 (42-10—96). The Eagles have limited 10 opponents to a hitting percentage of less than .100 this season, two of which have finished with a negative mark.  Emory closed out the contest with a 45-40 edge in digs and a 4-1 margin in total blocks.

With head coach Jenny McDowell going deep into her bench with 15 players seeing action, junior Sydney Leimbach topped all players with eight kills and turned in a blistering hitting performance of .538 (8-1—13).  In addition, Leimbach came up with a team-best three (1-2) total blocks. Freshman Leah Saunders hit .500, chalking up seven kills, while sophomore Morgan McKnight and freshman Maggie Rimmel each chipped in five terminations.  Junior Mady Arles registered 23 assists, five digs and one service ace while freshman Logan van Reken topped all players with nine digs.

Emory returns to action next Tuesday (Oct. 10) when it plays at Berry College.
