Emory Volleyball Announces 2018 Schedule

2018 Emory Volleyball Schedule

The Emory University volleyball program has released its schedule for the 2018 season, with the Eagles playing 14 matches against 13 opponents who competed in last season's NCAA D-III Tournament.

"Every season we try to put together a challenging schedule that features outstanding competition from various parts of the country," stated Emory Head Coach Jenny McDowell.  This year is no exception and we are certainly looking forward to playing against some of the finest Division programs in the country."

Emory will play a total of 12 regular-season home matches, and will open the campaign with eight straight contests at the Woodruff PE Center. The Eagles will commence 2018 by hosting the Emory University Classic, where they square off with three opponents who advanced to the postseason, starting with the season opener vs. Whittier College (Aug. 31, 7:00 pm), and followed by bouts against Illinois Wesleyan and Covenant College the next day at 12:30 and 5:30 pm, respectively.  The Emory National Tournament is next up with the Eagles playing five matches over a three-day stretch, starting with a Sept. 6 affair against Transylvania. Three of the next four foes at the National Tournament took part in last year's NCAA Tournament, including Otterbein (Sept. 7, 4:30 pm), Berry College (Sept. 7, 7:00 pm) and Tufts (Sept. 8, 4:00 pm).

McDowell and her squad will then play the next 13 matches either on the road or at neutral venues. An early-season test will see Emory travel to defending D-III national champion Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Sept. 14 with a date against perennial power Juniata scheduled for later that day. CMS closed out last season with an overall slate of 31-5 en route to the capturing its first title while JC made it to the second round of nationals, compiling an overall record of 24-9.

Emory will venture to Waltham, Mass., home to Brandeis University, Sept. 29-30, to take part in the University Athletic Association Round Robin I. The Eagles will clash with Rochester and New York University on the first day of action before meeting NCAA participant Carnegie Mellon the following afternoon.

After the second meeting of the year against Berry (Oct. 9), Emory will stay on the road the weekend of Oct. 13-14 when it plays four league contests at the UAA Round Robin II in Pittsburgh with Carnegie Mellon serving as host.  The Eagles will play a pair of matches each day with affairs against NCAA tourney teams Chicago and defending conference champ Washington University on tap.

Emory returns home to cap off the regular season by hosting its National Invitational Tournament.  After tangling with Buena Vista (Oct. 25, 8:00 pm) on the first night, the Eagles will tackle South Region foes and NCAA teams Randolph Macon (Oct. 26, 7:00 pm) and Birmingham Southern (Oct. 27, 3:00 pm).

The UAA Championships will be held Nov. 2-3 and hosted by the University of Rochester.
