Emory Volleyball Rolls By Transylvania

Head Coach Jenny McDowell saw her No. 8-ranked Eagles turn in an impressive Thursday evening performance, sweeping Transylvania in the opening match of the Emory National Volleyball Tournament.  Emory raised its record to 3-1 following a 3-0 triumph (25-9, 25-13, 25-20) over the Pioneers who slipped to 0-4.

Emory closed out the contest hitting .222 (38-14—108) while holding TU to an effort of -.070 (22-30—114).  The Eagles held a 56-45 advantage in digs and posted a decisive 12-3 cushion in total blocks.  Emory had no reception errors on the night.

Junior Karissa Dzurik led the Eagles' offensive attack, banging out 11 kills, her second double-figure performance of the campaign, and hitting .476 (11-1—21).  Dzurik also chipped in three digs and three block assists.  Junior Morgan McKnight and sophomore Leah Saunders each totaled eight terminations while senior Sydney Leimbach, seeing her first action since early October of last year, chalked up five successful attack attempts to go along with three solo blocks.  Senior Mady Arles doled out 30 assists and was second on the club with 14 digs while junior Elyse Thompson topped all players with 19 digs.

Emory continues play in its National Tournament on Friday with a 4:30 pm match vs. Otterbein followed by a 7:00 pm contest against Berry College.
