Emory Volleyball Tops UT-Dallas In East-West Challenge Finale

The Emory volleyball team finished up its play at the East-West Challenge on Saturday afternoon with a victory over UT-Dallas.  The Eagles raised their record to 8-3 with a 3-1 (25-22, 21-25, 25-22, 25-21) triumph over the Comets who slipped to 7-4.  Hosting the East-West Challenge was Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

Emory spread out its season-high 59 kills, with junior Morgan McKnight leading the club in that category with 14, her sixth double-figure effort of the season.  Senior Karissa Dzurik enjoyed a productive contest, hitting a squad-high .393 on the strength of 13 terminations with just two errors in 28 swing. Senior Sydney Leimbach chalked up 11 successful attack attempts while sophomore Leah Saunders accounted for 10 kills.  Senior setter Mady Arles dished out a career-high 48 assists and chipped in nine digs along with a team-high tying four (1-3) total blocks.

UT Dallas finished with advantages in hitting percentage (.234 vs. .217) and total blocks (11-6) while both squads totaled 67 digs.


Emory returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 29, when it tackles Rochester and New York University in the University Athletic Association Round Robin I in Waltham, Mass.
