Karissa Dzurik & Mady Arles Earn UAA Volleyball Recognition

Emory University seniors Karissa Dzurik (Columbia, PA) and Mady Arles (Richmond, VA) have been named Volleyball Players of the Week by the University Athletic Association after the pair helped the Eagles to a 4-1 record over a five-game stretch, with all of the team's wins coming at the league's recently concluded Round Robin II. It is the second time in her career that Dzurik has been honored by the conference and the first for Arles.

The 5-foot-11 Dzurik was tabbed as the Offensive Player of the Week after averaging a team-high 3.81 kills over 16 sets of action, posting double-figure terminations in each of the five contests. In addition, she hit .267 (61-21--150) and averaged 1.81 digs and 0.44 blocks as the Eagles finished the week with an overall record of 17-5, 6-1 in the UAA.

Karissa led the club in terminations in all four matches at the Round Robin II, ending with an average of 3.81 kills over 12 sets. In a 3-0 triumph over No. 8 Chicago, she pounded out 13 successful attack attempts, hitting .414 in the process, and chipped in two blocks, and later rang up a match-best 15 kills (second-highest mark of the year) to go along with an attack percentage of .433 (15-2--30) in a sweep of No. 9 Washington University.  Through matches played Oct. 14, Dzurik is eighth among UAA players in kills per set (3.07 kps) and has totaled 15 matches of double-figure terminations.

Arles was chosen as the Setter/Defensive Player of the Week, doling out 11.19 assists while chipping in 1.69 digs over 16 games.  In addition, she hit .366 (17-2--41) and tied for the team lead with nine service aces.

In the UAA RRII, Arles dished out 11.75 assists per set over the four matches with her play helping the squad hit .284 (181-60--426). In addition, she hit .412 (16-2--34), tied for the team lead with eight service aces and averaged 1.33 digs per set. In a 3-0 decision over No. 8 Chicago, Arles dished out 40 assists, the seventh time this year she had reached or surpassed that number.  Through contests played Oct. 14, Mady is second in the UAA and 27th nationally in assists average (10.32 aps).
