Emory University senior Mady Arles (Richmond, VA) and junior Elyse Thompson (Tallahassee, FL) have been named Volleyball Players of the Week by the University Athletic Association after the pair helped the Eagles to the program's second-ever national title.  It is the third time this year and in her career that Arles has been recognized and the initial time this season and third in her career for Thompson.

The 5-foot-11 Arles was selected as the Most Outstanding Player of the D-III Championships after averaging 10.8 assists, 1.7 digs and 0.60 blocks over 10 sets of action, as Emory defeated No. 25 Ithaca in the quarterfinals, No. 6 Juniata in the semifinals and No. 1 Calvin in the title match. In addition, she closed out the Championships hitting .357 (11-1--28) while doling out five service aces.  Arles registered 44 assists, her 11th outing of 40 or more assists this year, in the 3-1 verdict over Ithaca and chipped in four terminations and nine digs. Her precision-like setting helped Emory hit a blistering .364 (46-10--99) in the championship encounter against Calvin, ending that affair with 35 assists to go along with five kills, three aces and five digs.  The First Team All-American closed out the year second in the league and 15^th in the Division III ranks with a 10.71 assists-per-set average. Career-wise, Arles finished with 2,233 assists, good for eighth place on the school's all-time ladder.

Thompson turned in a stellar performance at her libero post, with her play heading up Emory's defensive effort that limited the three opponents to a .146 hitting percentage. Thompson averaged 6.30 digs over the 10 sets, leading the squad in that category in all three matches while pacing all players in two contests. She led all players with a season-high 24 digs against Calvin in the championship match, with that total representing her ninth outing this year with 20 or more. She opened the Championships with a 20-dig, three-service ace effort against Ithaca in the quarterfinals, and followed that with 19 digs against Juniata in the semifinals.  Thompson closed the curtain on the 2018 season fourth among league players in digs average (4.55 dps), and she will enter her senior season third on the Eagles' all-time ladder with 1,317 digs.

Emory closed out the season with an overall record of 30-6, its 12^th straight season of 30 or more victories.
