Elyse Thompson

Elyse Thompson

Senior Elyse Thompson helped the Emory volleyball team to a 3-0 week, including a pair of victories at the UAA Round Robin II.

The 5-foot-7 Thompson played in all of the squad's 11 sets and averaged a team-high 4.64 digs per game, while doling out a team-leading nine service aces. Her defensive play helped Emory limit its three opponents to a .132 hitting percentage.

In a sweep of Lee University, Thompson led all players with 10 digs. At the start of Sunday's UAA RR II, Thompson needed 33 digs to become the school's all-time leader in that category. She put a dent in that total when she topped all performers with 19 in a 3-1 decision over Washington University, adding a pair of aces in that contest, and then established herself as the program's career record holder when she finished with a match-high 22 digs in a 3-1 verdict over NYU, her third outing of 20 or more this season, boosting her to 1,519 and bettering the previous standard of 1,511 held by Kate Bowman (2011-14). In addition, Elyse dialed up seven service aces, helping Emory to a 16-2 edge in that department, and handled all 18 of her receiving opportunities flawlessly.

So far this year, Thompson paces the Eagles in digs average with a 4.21 per-set mark, good for sixth place among UAA players, and has produced a team-leading 26 service aces.
