Emory Volleyball Notches Sweep At Covenant College

The No. 1-ranked Emory University volleyball team took to the road and emerged with a Tuesday evening win over Covenant College.  The Eagles were victorious for the 11th time and boosted their overall slate to 17-1 following a 3-0 (25-14, 25-23, 25-14) decision over the Scotts who slipped to 6-13.

Emory employed a strong defensive effort in securing the triumph, holding Covenant to a .037 hitting percentage (26-22—109) while countering with a .209 effort (38-19—91). The Eagles closed out the match with a decided 49-29 bulge in digs, though the Scots finished with an 8-5 advantage in blocks.

The Eagles featured a balanced attack with senior Morgan McKnight tying for match honors with nine kills to go along with a classy .562 attack percentage (9-0—16), her third-highest mark of the season.  McKnight's nine terminations upped her career total to 988, good for 19th place on the school's all-time ladder.  Junior Leah Saunders tied McKnight with nine successful attack attempts while chipping in nine digs and a pair of block assists. Freshman middle Amanda Meyer enjoyed a productive match, hitting .714 on the strength of five kills with no errors in seven swings.  In addition, Meyer registered a team-leading four blocks (0-4).  Freshman setter Cassie Srb dished out 30 assists and added eight digs.

Emory returns to action on Friday (Oct. 18) when it welcomes Hendrix College to the Woodruff PE Center in a 5:00 pm start.
