Tara Martin Selected For UAA Volleyball Honor

Emory University sophomore Tara Martin (Jacksonville Beach, FL) has been named by the University Athletic Association as Volleyball Hitter of the Week following her efforts at the Emory National Invitational. It marks the second time this season and in her career that she has been tabbed for the award.

The 5-foot-9 Martin averaged 3.50 kills and posted a team-high attack percentage of .409 (42-6--88) over 12 sets of play in helping Emory boost its season record to 26-2. In addition, she averaged 0.42 blocks and 0.33 digs per game.

In the Invitational opener vs. No. 9 Berry, Martin hit .500 on the strength of nine kills with just one miscue in 16 swings, helping the Eagles to a 3-0 victory. She followed that performance by banging out a career-high 17 terminations, hitting .381 (17-1--42) in the process, while contributing a pair of block assists, in a dramatic come-from-behind win over Wittenberg. In the closing match of the weekend against Washington and Lee, Martin put on another efficient hitting exhibition, dialing up 16 successful attack attempts, second on the squad, and hitting .400 (16-4--30) in a 3-1 triumph. It represented the 14th time this year that she posted double figures in kills.

On the year Martin is third on the team and fifth among UAA players in kills average (3.03 kps), with her hitting mark of .294 leads the club and ranks 10th on the conference chart.

The Eagles return to action on Friday (Nov. 8) afternoon when they square off against Brandeis in the quarterfinals of the University Athletic Association Championships.  Serving as the host for the Championships is the University of Chicago.
