Senior Spotlight: Logan van Reken

The senior spotlight series continues with a look at women's volleyball student-athlete Logan van Reken.

Name: Logan van Reken

Hometown (HS): Las Vegas, NV (Faith Lutheran)

Sport: Volleyball

Major: Nursing

 

Q: How did you start getting involved with [current sport]? How old were you when you started playing?

I started playing volleyball in the 3rd grade and I got involved in elementary school.

Q: Do you have any plans for after graduation?

I'd like to work in an ICU somewhere as a registered nurse.

Q: What is one piece of advice you would give to your freshman self?

If I could give I've myself one piece of advice it would be to not sweat the small stuff.

Q: Which Emory faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?

I have had the greatest impact by Joan Braden - our assistant volleyball coach, she has been such a rock in our lives.

Q: What is one class would you retake just for fun and why?

The one class I would retake is Theatre 120 - Intro to Acting all over again. It was so incredible and the greatest opportunity to improve my comfortability in front of a crowd.

Q: What is the most unique thing about your hometown?

I am from Las Vegas so I probably would say that I grew up in a casino.

Q: What is something that people may not know about you but should?

People probably do not think that I like horses.

Q: Other than the sport(s) you play, what is another one you think you could play at a high level?

The other sport I think I could be pretty good at is golf.

Q: What is one professional athlete (past or present) would you like to have a conversation with and why?

I would like to have a conversation with Kobe Bryant because he made such an impact in so many people's lives and in sports that it would be interesting to pick his brain.

Q: How have you been trying to occupy your time with given the current COVID environment?

I have been taking classes as well as babysitting during COVID.

Q: Food you hate that everybody else seems to enjoy?

I love any and all food you put in front of me - I am the least picky person in the world so I can eat anything.

Q: What would you say are your top three television shows of all time?

I'd say that my top three television shows are Scandal, This Is Us and Jane the Virgin.

Q: What is your favorite thing to do around Atlanta?

My favorite thing in Atlanta to do is to explore the activities and food scene.

Q: What has been your most memorable moment during competition during your Eagles career?

I'd say the most memorable part was winning the National Championship in 2018.

Q: Favorite non-athletic moment from your past few years at Emory?

My favorite non-athletic moments include making so many new friends in sorority recruitment/the lodge.

Q: What would be one thing you'd like to impart to the underclassmen before finishing your career?

I would like to tell the underclass men to cherish every moment - it goes by fast.
