Emory Women's Cross Country Solid At Furman Classic

The No. 22-ranked Emory women's cross country team turned in a strong effort Saturday morning at the 5th Annual Furman Classic.  The meet was held on the Furman University Golf Course

The Eagles placed fifth out of 17 teams with 112 points.  Host Furman came away with the No. 1 spot with 18 points while Clemson captured runner-up honors with 86 points.  Lee University was third (92 pts.) and Mount Olive fourth (104 pts.).

Senior Gabrielle Stravach led the Emory contingent and crossed the finish line in the seventh position out of 163 runners with a 6k time of 21:34, which represented her second-fastest mark during her collegiate career.  Junior Maeve Andrews was the next Emory scorer and 27th overall, clocking a 22:39 that also marked her second-best effort in that distance.  Freshman Abby Durfee raced to the No. 3 spot among the pack with her performance of 22:56 ranking 31st overall. Junior Kaylee Slade posted a personal-best of 23:04, good for 33rd place, while sophomore Meredith Hughes rounded out the Eagles' scorers with her time of 23:06 slotting her 35th.

Emory returns to action on Saturday, September 16, when it competes at the North Georgia Invitational.
