Emory Cross Country Turns Attention to Rhodes College Invitational

Emory Cross Country Turns Attention to Rhodes College Invitational

The men and women of the Emory University cross country program will take to the trail this Saturday, Sep. 21st, in Memphis, Tennessee for their third meet of the season. Shelby Farms Park will serve as the home for the Rhodes College Invitational, a 25-team affair that will start with the men's 8K race at 8:00 am (CDT). The women's 6K race will follow at 8:45 am.

A strong field of teams will be in attendance, including five DI teams. However, the Eagles will look to compete with the likes of Berry College, Centre College, Oglethorpe University, and Rhodes, teams that all hail from Emory's DIII South/Southeast Region. Just a season ago, Rhodes captured the Men's NCAA South/Southeast Region title, while Emory was able to hold off Centre College for the honor in the women's competition. To this point in the season, Rhodes, Oglethorpe, and Centre rank 5th, 7th, and 9th in the men's regional rankings, respectively. On the women's side, Centre, Berry, and Rhodes are 3rd, 5th, and 7th in the region.

Emory Head Coach Linh Nguyen's teams hold down the top spots in the DIII South/Southeast regional rankings. Additionally, the men rose nine spots to stand 20th in the national poll published by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), while the women's team resides at 25th.

Both teams competed just a week ago, at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga Twilight meet, where the men finished third out of seven non-DI teams and the women took fifth out of seven non-DI teams.
