The Emory Athletics Weekly Preview for January 24th – January 30th. This preview is to serve as a weekly snapshot of all upcoming Emory athletic events for the coming week.

(NOTE: Due to the recent surge with the Omicron variant, spectators will not be permitted at all home events until further notice)

Men's Basketball:

After a successful 2-0 road trip, the No. 24 ranked Emory University men's basketball team returns home to close out the first half of the UAA schedule. The Eagles (11-4, 4-1 UAA) will first take on the Brandeis Judges (8-3, 1-1) Friday evening before facing off against the NYU Violets (9-5, 0-4) Sunday afternoon. Emory is 36-30 all-time against Brandeis having won five of the last six meetings and are 23-10 in the series at home. Against NYU, the Eagles trail 31-36 all-time with a home record of 16-17 but have won six straight overall and four in a row in games played in Atlanta. The Eagles are coming off a torrid shooting weekend in which they shot 55.5% as a team and were 33-for-58 from three-point land including a team record 21 threes Sunday versus Carnegie Mellon.

Women's Basketball:

The Emory University women's basketball team comes into this home stretch riding a four-game winning streak that they will look to continue against one of the top teams in the conference. The Eagles (10-4, 4-1 UAA) will face off against the Brandeis Judges (5-9, 0-5) Friday night before taking on conference-leading and No. 7 ranked NYU (14-0, 5-0) Sunday afternoon. Emory is 36-27 all-time against Brandeis, 21-11 at home, and has won nine of the last 11 meetings including a current string of six straight. With NYU, the Eagles trail overall in the series but have won three of the last four meetings. Junior Claire Brock continues to impress for the Eagles as she was named the UAA Athlete of the Week for the third time this season following a weekend where she averaged 22 points including a career-high 28 points in the win at Case Western Reserve.

Indoor Track & Field:

After a successful weekend at the Samford Bulldog Open, the Eagles will travel to Columbia, SC for a two day invitational, hosted by The University of South Carolina. The Eagles have had several strong individual performances so far this season. For the men, freshman Jackson Price sits first in the conference in the 200m dash (22.38) and second in the UAA in the 60m dash (7.03). Graduate student Liam Fost holds the best time in the 400m event in the conference at 49.53 seconds. On the field, sophomore Kenya Sei stands fourth in the conference in the weight throw event with a distance of 14.72m while freshman John Zhai is fourth in the UAA in the triple jump at 12.66m. For the women, freshman Audrey Johnson is sixth in the conference in the 60m dash with a time of 7.97 seconds while junior Claire Evans ranks fifth among UAA performers in the 60m hurdle with a time of 9.34 seconds. In field events, senior Alex Devaux leads all UAA performers in the weight throw event and is 19th in the nation with a distance of 15.97m. Freshman Caroline Hansen has impressed this season in both the long jump and triple jump events where she sits 6th and 4th, respectively, in the league as well as 20th in the nation in the triple jump event for her distance of 11.28m.

Swimming & Diving:

The Emory University swimming & diving teams will travel to Athens this weekend for their final dual meet of the season as they take on the University of Georgia. The Eagles have turned in another strong season thus far highlighted by top individual performances from a number of swimmers. For the men, sophomore Nicholas Goudie holds the top time in the nation this year in the 50 free (19.84), 100 free (43.93), and 200 free (1:36.70). Junior Pat Pema holds the top time in the nation in the 500 free with a time of 4:23.33 and was recently named the UAA Swimmer of the Week. With a time of 1:56.47, senior Jason Hamilton leads the nation in the 200 breast while freshman Crow Thorsen holds the fastest Division III time in the 400 IM at 3:53.72. For the women, senior Taylor Leone leads the nation in the 50 free with a time of 23.15 and in the 100 Free, junior Caroline Maki holds the nation's top time at 50.35. In the 100 back, sophomore Megan Jungers holds the best time in the nation at 54.57 and was also most recently tabbed as the UAA Swimmer of the week. Junior Allison MacMillan rounds out the Eagles with Division III-leading times as she stands first in the 200 Fly at 2:00.45.
