The Emory Athletics Weekly Preview for February 28th – March 6th. This preview is to serve as a weekly snapshot of all upcoming Emory athletic events for the coming week.

 

Men's Basketball:

The Emory University men's basketball team, by virtue of winning the UAA conference regular season championship, will play host to the first two rounds of the NCAA D-III Men's Basketball Tournament. The Eagles (19-5) will face-off against the USA South conference tournament champion Averett Cougars (17-11) on Friday evening at 7:10 PM in the Woodruff PE Center in the first round of the NCAA D-III Tournament. This marks Emory's ninth consecutive NCAA tournament appearance, which now holds the mantel for the longest active postseason streak in the country. The Eagles have only matched up with the Cougars twice before and emerged victorious in both meetings, most recently defeating them 75-57 back in 2010. If the Eagles conquer the Cougars on Friday they will advance to the second round on Saturday at 7:10 PM where they will take on the winner of the Berry/Wabash game that is set to take place at 4:40 PM on Friday.

Women's Tennis:

The Emory University women's tennis will travel to Danville, KY this weekend to compete in the ITA National Indoors Championship. The Eagles come into the tournament seeded first of eight teams and will match up against the eighth seeded Centre Colonels in the first round of play on Friday. The semi-finals and finals are scheduled to be played on Saturday and Sunday should Emory qualify. The Eagles have won five National Indoor Team Championships in the event's 12-year history including three of the last four.

Baseball:

After a successful 2-1 weekend in Montgomery, AL against Huntingdon, the Emory University baseball team returns to action this week with four more games on their slate. The Eagles (6-5) travel to Rome, GA on Tuesday at 5:00 PM for a single game against the Berry Vikings (6-3) before coming back home for a three game series against the Maryville Scots (6-1) on Saturday and Sunday. After an emphatic 17-5 victory over the Vikings in this year's season opener, the Eagles moved to 13-13 all-time against Berry. The Scots come to town for their first matchup of the season against the Eagles, with Emory holding a 36-28 advantage in the all-time series record over Maryville. Freshman Jack Halloran is coming off the best week of his young collegiate career having hit his first two career home runs including a 10th-inning grand slam in their last game against the Hawks on Sunday.

Softball:

The Emory University softball team travels to Columbus, GA for the NFCA Classic on March 4th-6th where the Eagles are one of 24 teams competing in this round robin event. The Eagles will compete in two games on each of Friday, Saturday and Sunday against six unique opponents.

Indoor Track & Field:

After a solid weekend at the UAA Indoor Championships, the Emory University indoor track & field team will head to Boston, MA for the Tufts National Qualifier. The Tufts National Qualifier is a one day event on Saturday, March 5th that serves as the last opportunity for the Eagles to achieve marks in hopes to qualify for the NCAA D-III Indoor Championships on March 11th-12th. At the UAA Indoor Championships, the Eagles had nine total athletes earn All-UAA honors. Freshman Jackson Price (60m dash), graduate student Liam Fost (400m dash) and senior Alex Devaux (weight throw) each found themselves atop the podium in their respective events at the UAA Indoor Championships.
