Matthew Schner & Lucas Bumgarner Tabbed as UAA Athletes of the Week

Emory University student-athletes Matthew Schner and Lucas Bumgarner were named the University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week Monday evening.

It is the fifth weekly honor this season for Schner and the eighth overall for his career. For Bumgarner, he has now been tabbed the Men's Diver of the Week on 15 different occasions during his career and the fourth time this season.

Schner continued his remarkable 2021-22 season with a 27-point effort as the Eagles defeated Rochester 76-74 in the regular season finale. Schner extended his streak to 10 games with 20 points or more as he led all scorers in the game. Schner played all 40 minutes, knocking down 55% of his shots while leading Emory in both rebounds (7) and steals (3) to go along with three assists. The Eagles return to the court this Friday night as they oppose Averett University in the first round of NCAA tournament.

Bumgarner was a two-time winner this weekend at the NCAA Diving Regional, taking first on both boards in convincing fashion. Bumgarner won his second straight regional 1-meter crown on Friday with a score of 548.75, more than 80 points better than second place. Then on Saturday, Bumgarner won his third 3-meter regional event in a row, taking first in the field of 12 at 512.60 points, nearly 78 points better than second place. Next up for Bumgarner and his Eagle teammates will be the NCAA Championships from March 16-19 in Indianapolis, IN.
