Emory Athletics Weekly Preview: October 10 - 16

The Emory Athletics Weekly Preview for October 10th – October 16th. This preview is to serve as a weekly snapshot of all upcoming Emory athletic events for the coming week.

 

Men's Golf:

The Eagles open the week with their B team taking part in the Piedmont Invitational in Clarkesville. Representing the team will be Brian Hanson, Grant Drogosch, Prayaag Oruganti, Tarun Hoskere, Logan Lowery, Nicholas Nautiyal and Parker Shimp. Emory will also head to Sandestin, Florida later in the week for the three-day Golfweek Invitational, beginning Sunday at the Sandestin Resort.

Volleyball:

The No. 7 ranked Emory University volleyball program features a full slate of matches, beginning with a top-10 showdown Tuesday night when the Eagles oppose No. 5 ranked Berry College. Following a matchup with the Vikings, Emory will host another SAA foe in Hendrix Friday afternoon prior to venturing to upstate New York for the third and final UAA Round Robin of the season where they are schedule to take on Brandeis and No. 10 NYU.

Men's Tennis

After making its fall debut this past weekend, several members of the Eagles will head to Rome, Georgia for this year's iteration of the ITA Cup. Junior Nolan Shah will highlight the Eagles in attendance after he captured the ITA South Regional singles crown this past Sunday in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Joining Shah will be freshman John Lasanajak and the duo won the doubles regional crown over teammates Charlie James and Ryan Glanville.

Women's Tennis

Senior Stephanie Shulman makes her ITA Cup debut following her dominating run through the ITA South Regional in singles last month. Shulman will take on some of the best from the Division III landscape in the singles draw.

Cross Country:

The men's and women's cross country teams are back racing as they head to Montevallo, Alabama for the UAB Blazer Classic Friday morning. The Eagles are coming off an impressive weekend at the beginning of the month where the men finished second at both the Paul Short Run and Alexander Asics Invitational and were led by historical runs from Spencer Moore and Brett Lucas as both runners eclipsed the team 8k record. For the women, senior Annika Urban continued her winning ways as she made it 3-for-3 in individual titles with a blistering time of 20:22 that shattered the team record and garnered her USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week acclaim for the first time in her career.

Men's Soccer:

The men's soccer team looks to bounce back this week with the first UAA double weekend of the year. The Eagles (3-5-4, 0-2 UAA) hosts NYU (5-4-1, 1-1 UAA) Friday evening before taking on Brandeis University (4-4-2, 0-2 UAA) Sunday morning. The Eagles look to shake off a loss to No. 1 ranked UChicago when they take on the Violets, a team that they've had success against in recent meetings. Emory is 3-1-1 in the last five meetings with NYU including an overtime win last season and owns a 22-6-5 record all-time in series. Against Brandeis, the Eagles lead the series 20-12-2 but have won just once in since 2014 and saw an overtime defeat to Judges in last's year's meeting.

Women's Soccer:

The women's soccer team has been on a roll of late, rattling off seven straight wins and have outscored opponents 13-0 over the last three games. The Eagles are fresh off a 3-0 victory at UChicago and look to maintain their standing as the top team in the league as NYU (5-1-5, 0-1-1 UAA) and Brandeis (6-4-1, 0-2 UAA) visit Atlanta in the first UAA double weekend of the season. Emory leads the all-time series with the Violets 13-1-12 although the two programs have been even over the last seven meetings with the two squads totaling six ties with the Eagles earning the lone win in the stretch in 2019. Against the Judges, the Eagles lead 21-7-6 but saw Brandeis earn a win in the series last year, snapping Emory's seven-game unbeaten streak (4-0-3). Senior Kylie Hall was recently named the UAA Athlete of the Week for a second time as she contributed to four of the team's 10 goals this past week with one goal and three assists as she became the Emory single-season record holder for most assists with 13 through 10 games.

Women's Golf:

The women's golf program looks to wrap up its fall schedule as the Eagles head to Sandestin, Florida for the Golfweek Invitational. Emory opened the season with a first place finish at the Hamilton College Invitational before taking fourth at the MCC Intercollegiate. Sophomore Sharon Mun has paced the team through two tournaments, taking first overall at Hamilton and took silver at MCC.
