Five Eagles Tabbed as UAA Athletes of the Week

Emory University saw five student-athletes named as University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week Monday afternoon, the third time the Eagles have had five or more athletes earn weekly honors in a single week in the month of October.

Garnering weekly acclaim this week was junior Megan Jungers and senior Lucas Bumgarner from swimming and diving, sophomores Sharon Mun and Michael Burry from the golf programs and freshman Keirnan Skelly from men's soccer.

Jungers was a two-time event winner on Saturday in Emory's dual meet win over Birmingham-Southern and recorded the team's lone NCAA B Cut of the meet. Jungers' NCAA qualifying time came in the 100 Backstroke where she posted a time of 56.01 (second fastest time in Division III this season) to win the event by nearly three seconds. Jungers added a win in the 200 Backstroke with her mark of 2:05.36, the third fastest time in DIII this year. In addition to her two individual wins, Jungers took part in both relay events, swimming leadoff in Emory's A team's second place showing in the 200 Medley Relay (1:48.79 - 26.21 split) and swam second in Emory's E team's third place finish in the 200 Freestyle Relay (1:39.84 - 24.83 split).

Bumgarner topped all divers on Saturday at the dual meet, sweeping both events. Bumgarner posted a score of 353.30 in win the 3-meter before he recorded a score of 371.75 in the 1-meter.

Mun won her second tournament as an individual this season at the Golfweek Division III Invitational last week. Mun posted a 54-hole total of 210 (71-69-70) to help the Eagles win their second tournament of the season, this time over five other teams ranked inside the top 10. Mun exhibited consistent excellence all tournament long posting the second most pars at 42 and tying for the best score on par-5 holes with a score of -4.

Burry led the Eagles in scoring for his third consecutive tournament this time registering a score of 212 (70-67-75) at the Golfweek Invite to finish tied for third overall. Burry totaled 11 birdies, tied for the fourth most, to help the Eagles win their second consecutive tournament of this season, this time over seven other teams ranked inside the top 10. Burry's 54-hole total of 212 marks the best three-round score of his young collegiate career.

Skelly rounds out the weekly winners as he improved to 3-0 in goal this season as he helped the Eagles top regionally-ranked Roanoke College on Saturday in the final non-conference game of the year. Skelly made three saves, all coming within the final 20 minutes of the game, including a big-time diving save on a free kick from the top of the box with one minute remaining as Emory won 2-1.

This marks the second weekly honor of the season for Bumgarner, Mun and Burry and the first for both Jungers and Skelly this fall. Overall, this is Bumgarner's 18th for his career, the fourth weekly award for Mun, the second career honor for both Jungers and Burry and the first of Skelly's career.
