Emory Athletics Weekly Preview: Oct. 31 - Nov. 6

The Emory Athletics Weekly Preview for October 31st - November 6th. This preview is to serve as a weekly snapshot of all upcoming Emory athletic events for the coming week.

 

Volleyball:

Coming off an outstanding 3-0 weekend at the Emory Invitational, the Emory University volleyball team enters into the postseason where they will open the UAA Tournament with a quarterfinal matchup against Case Western Reserve. The No. 11 ranked Eagles (18-6, 4-3 UAA) will travel to Brooklyn, NY where they will face-off against the Spartans (21-4, 4-3 UAA) in the first round of the UAA Championships on Friday at 2:00 PM. Should the Eagles win against Case Western Reserve they will play their semifinal match against the winner of no. 6 NYU and Brandeis at 4:00 PM on Friday. The UAA Championship match is scheduled to be played at 1:00 PM on Saturday. The Eagles sport an impressive 47-3 all-time record over the Spartans with their most recent matchup coming earlier this season resulting in a straight set sweep of Case Western Reserve. Junior Carly Wallace had one of the most outstanding three game starteches of her career contributing 42 kills including an Eagle season high 20 against No. 8 Berry to help earn her Tournament MVP honors.

Swimming & Diving:

The Emory University swimming & diving team will host the two-day Emory Fall Invitational this weekend. The Eagles will host Carson-Newman, Wingate and Georgia Southern's women's team on Friday at 6:00 PM and Saturday at 11:00 AM. Competing at the UNC-Pembroke tri-meet last weekend, sophomore Nolan Lahmann was part of three event wins: 100 Back (52.49), 200 Back (1:56.45) and the 200 Medley (1:35.71). Freshman Morgan Main took home first place in both distance freestyle events posting a time of 10:42.26 in the 1000 freestyle before finishing the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:14.85.

Men's Golf:

Coming off of a second place finish and the team's first individual winner of the season at the Chick-fil-A Invitational, the Emory University men's golf team is back in action this week for their final tournament of the fall semester at the O'Briant Jensen Memorial. The 36-hole tournament is being played on the 6,755-yard, par-71 Sedgefield-Dye course in Greensboro, NC. The Eagles will open play at the tournament on Monday morning before closing things out on Tuesday. Of the 18 teams competing at the tournament, seven of them are ranked in the top 25, highlighted by No. 2 Methodist, No. 5 Christopher Newport and No. 6 Carnegie Mellon. Emory will send junior Jackson Klutznick, sophomore Michael Burry, sophomore Tony Li, junior Michael Rosenbloom and sophomore Josh Qian to compete at the tournament while sophomore Prayaag Oruganti will compete as an individual. Oruganti is coming off of his first collegiate tournament win and the first individual title for the Eagles this season at the Chick-fil-A Invitational where he shot a 139 (70-69), tied for the sixth best two-round score in program history.

Men's Soccer:

The Emory University men's soccer team will close the regular season with one final conference match against Rochester on Saturday. The Eagles (5-8-4, 1-5 UAA) will host the Rochester Yellowjackets (6-5-4, 1-3-2 UAA) on Saturday at 11:00 AM to wrap up their season. Emory holds a 17-12-5 all-time series advantage over the Yellowjackets with their most recent matchup a double-overtime thriller last season that Rochester won 2-1. Senior Cole Hendricks scored the Eagles lone goal in the past weekend of conference play on a deep through ball from fellow senior Alejandro Gomez that Hendricks was able to poke into the goal.

Women's Soccer:

The Emory University women's soccer team will close out the regular season against Rochester with hopes of building up momentum heading into the postseason. The No. 15 ranked Eagles (11-4, 4-2 UAA) will host the Rochester Yellowjackets (7-3-5, 2-2-2 UAA) on Saturday at 1:30 PM for their final game of the regular season. The Eagles and Yellowjackets all-time series record is knotted up at 13-13-8 with their most recent match ending in a double-overtime 0-0 draw in November of last season. Junior Grace Reyer scored the lone goal for the Eagles this past weekend on a one-touch ball off her left foot that she lifted just above Carnegie Mellon's keeper to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead in that match.
