Eagles Land Three UAA Athlete of the Week Selections

Three Emory University student-athletes were chosen as University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week Monday afternoon, highlighted by a pair of volleyball athletes that led the team to the Association title this past weekend.

Junior Carly Wallace was phenomenal all weekend long as she led the Eagles in kills in each of the three matches on the way to the team's third UAA championship in four seasons. Wallace went for a double-double in the pivotal semifinal match against No. 6 ranked NYU, knocking home 19 kills while also contributing 10 digs. In the Eagles straight-set victory over the WashU Bears in the championship match, Wallace crushed 14 kills on just 22 total attacks for an astounding hitting percentage of .500 which paced the team.

Senior Lauren Bandera was a defensive stalwart for the Eagles in the libero position as she led Emory in digs in all three of the matches on the way to their conference title. Bandera totaled 49 digs across three matches including 21 in the crucial semifinal match against No. 6 ranked NYU. She made many plays that didn't show up on that stat sheet as well, keeping countless balls in play off of blocks that otherwise would have been points for the Eagles opponents.

Sophomore Michael Burry finished in sixth place at the O'Briant Jensen Memorial as he carded a one-under par 141 (72-69) to lead the men's golf program. Burry's performance marks his fourth consecutive tournament to open the year that he has led the Eagles in scoring and helped lead the Eagles to a fifth place overall finish at the tournament.

The volleyball team opens the NCAA tournament this weekend, taking on Bethany (WV) in the first round Thursday evening at 5:30 PM in Lexington, Kentucky at Transylvania University.
