Eagles Stand Seventh in Fall LEARFIELD Directors' Cup Standings

The fall edition of the Division III LEARFIELD Directors' Cup standings have been released and the Emory University Eagles find themselves in seventh place in the prestigious award race.

Following a fall season where all five Emory programs qualified for the NCAA postseason, the Eagles recorded 286.50 points. Emory is the second-highest ranked University Athletic Association institution behind New York University which stands in sixth at 295.50 points. Johns Hopkins University is the overall leader with 459.00 points.

The LEARFIELD Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today with points being awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.  Overall, 18 sports are counted in the final DIII standings, four of which must be men's and women's soccer and men's and women's basketball. The next highest (14 max.) sports scored for each institution, regardless of gender, are used in the standings.

Emory finished fifth at the end of the 2022-23 athletic calendar, the school's 10th-consecutive top-10 finish and 20th top-10 finish in the past 21 Directors' Cups.

This fall, the Eagles' women's cross country team led the way with their eighth place NCAA finish – the second-best showing in program history – and collected 70.5 points. Volleyball, having advanced to the regional finals for the 12th time over the last 13 seasons, earned 64 points and men's cross country, which placed 22nd at nationals, came through with 52 points. Adding to the point total were the men's and women's soccer programs which both reached the second round of their respective NCAA Championships, garnering 50 points each.

The next edition of the Division III LEARFIELD Directors' Cup standings are set to be released on March 28 and will account for winter-based team finishes.
