The Emory Athletics weekly preview for April 17th to April 21st. This preview is to serve as a weekly snapshot of all upcoming athletic events for the coming week.
Softball:
Following back-to-back weekends on the road, the Emory softball team (19-13, 5-7 UAA) returns to Cooper Field for the final time in the 2024 regular season, hosting New York University. The Eagles are coming off a 3-1 series win at Brandeis where they won the final three games of the series by a combined score of 22-11.
Freshman Ellie Zerr continued to be an RBI-producing machine, totaling 10 RBI across the four games against the Judges. With her RBI tally, Zerr now stands at 52 on the season which is the seventh-most in a single-season in program history and is nine shy of tying Megan Light's rookie record of 61 set during the 2011 season. Entering the weekend, Zerr is second in Division III in RBI and is two behind the nation's leader. Zerr also ranks as the conference leader in slugging percentage (.806), home runs (9) and total bases (79).
Classmate Georgia Pineda impressed as well this past weekend, spinning a pair of complete games as she went 2-0 with a 0.93 ERA. For the season, she is tied for second on the team with five wins in the circle and leads the team with three complete games.
The Violets come to Atlanta with a 6-20 overall record and just picked up their first UAA win of the year in 12 tries, defeating Carnegie Mellon in the series finale on Sunday by a score of 5-2. Senior Madi Hand leads the team with a .309 average and 1.018 OPS in 26 games, smacking seven home runs and is the team leader with 14 RBI. NYU is averaging just over three runs per game.
The teams have met 22 previous times with the Eagles leading the series 15-7. This weekend, Emory is set to honor their alumni and current seniors with festivities all weekend long. Fans can enjoy free BBQ and t-shirts on Saturday before the Eagles honor their four-member senior class following the conclusion of Saturday's scheduled doubleheader.

Track & Field:
The Emory University track & field teams remain in the Atlanta area this weekend with one final tune-up prior to the UAA Championships in Pittsburgh next weekend. The Eagles will head over to Midtown for the Georgia Tech Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
The Eagles enjoyed a record-breaking weekend as the program was split at the Field Day Invitational and Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic meets at Berry and Lynchburg. On Friday, graduate Nikki Boon established a new program record in the Heptathlon at Berry as she scored 5.107 points to win the event. Boon placed inside the top-four in all seven events including first place efforts in the long jump and javelin. At Berry, senior Spencer Watry and junior Madison Tiaffay broke set team records in the mile. The following afternoon, senior Dawit Dean eclipsed Watry's record in the 800m with a sub-1:50 time and in the shot put, junior Sarah Fineman matched the previous record of 12.97m.
The Eagles will head into the GT meet boasting a pair of top-20 rankings as the women's team checked in at No. 9 in the week four USTFCCCA rankings and the men's team sits at No. 20.

Men's Tennis:
The No. 2 ranked Emory men's tennis team has two more matches on the slate as the Eagles gear up for the UAA Championships at the end of the month. Emory has won three in a row, including wins over Division II's North Georgia and No. 20 NC Wesleyan, to improve to 13-3 on the season.
This weekend, the Eagles are set to travel to NAIA powerhouse Tennessee Wesleyan on Saturday before returning home for a senior day match against No. 25 ranked Washington & Lee University on Sunday. Before the start of the match against the Generals, the Eagles will honor its six-member graduating class.
This will be the third meeting with the TWU Bulldogs this season with the Eagles winning an exhibition in January before taking the second meeting by a count of 6-3. Sunday's match will be the first since 2019 between W&L and Emory with the Eagles owning a 30-6 record in the all-time series, including a string of 28 straight wins.

Men's Golf:
The No. 2 ranked Emory men's golf team is back on the course for the final time in the regular season before the NCAA Championships next month. The Eagles return to competition as they play host for the Discover Dekalb Invitational in Conyers, GA on Saturday and Sunday.
Emory just concluded the Shoals Intercollegiate on Tuesday with their A-team placing third with a nine-over 873 across three rounds and the B-team coming in eighth with a score of 926. Senior Jackson Klutznick continued his stellar season as he earned a spot on the Shoals All-Tournament Team as he tied for third on the individual leaderboard with a five-under 211. Junior Michael Burry added a top-10 showing with his ninth place finish with a three-over 219.
