Eagles Travel to Maryville Tuesday for Key Matchup

The Emory University baseball team faces a key mid-week test this week, as the Eagles will travel to Maryville College (Tenn.) on Tuesday for the second of two games between the teams this season.  The first pitch is scheduled for 4:00 PM.

Emory Eagles
Emory will enter play on Tuesday with an overall record of 21-10, after four-straight victories and six wins in its last seven games.  The Eagles are 3-2 in road games this season.  Emory is batting .313 as a team this season, while the Eagles’ pitching staff has a 4.42 ERA.

Maryville Scots
Maryville completed a three-game sweep of LaGrange College over the weekend to improve to 20-7 on the season.  The Scots have a record of 14-3 at home this season.  Maryville has a team ERA of 2.86 during the year, while its hitters have recorded a batting average of .285.  The Scots are led by head Coach Daniel Washburn, who has an 105-86 record during his five seasons with the team.  He is assisted by Paul Henry and Jimmy Reese.

Matchup History
Earlier in the season, the two teams met on a neutral site in Memphis, TN, with Maryville coming away with a 5-1 win over the Eagles, behind a complete-game four hitter from pitcher Robert Brown.  In the loss for Emory, freshman catcher Jared Welch finished one-for-three with the Eagles’ only RBI of the game.

Emory is 29-23 all time against Maryville, but has lost four-straight games to the Scots, dating back to the 2009 season.  The Eagles are 16-13 all time on the road against Maryville.
