Schwendel, who was picked by Texas in the 40th round of the 2012 MLB First Year Player's Draft, is currently pitching for the Rangers' low-A affiliate, the Hickory Crawdads. He has excelled for Hickory in a relief role, going 1-0 with a 1.88 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 14 innings.
Schwendel earned all-region third team recognition in 2012, going 6-4 with a 3.01 ERA and 103 strikeouts in 92.2 innings.
