Baseball Completes Series Sweep of Brandeis

Baseball Completes Series Sweep of Brandeis

Following a historic doubleheader on Saturday, the Emory University baseball team was back at it again on Sunday completing the sweep of Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts.

The Eagles, who scored a program and UAA record 31 runs in both games of the twinbill yesterday, defeated the Judges by a 9-1 count in the finale. With the win, the Eagles win their 20th game of the season and now stand 9-2 in the UAA with a healthy-size lead with only four games remaining. Emory has now won 34 straight in the all-time series with Brandeis.

The Judges got on the scoreboard first with a solo home run in the second but from there it was all in favor of the Eagles, scoring nine unanswered.

Senior Ellis Schwartz led off the scoring with a two-run home run in the third before sophomore Matthew Sicoli added a RBI single to score Saturday's standout Jack Halloran. Schwartz's home run was his third in three straight games and gave Emory 13 home runs in the series.

Sicoli added another run-scoring single to open the Eagles' four-run fifth. Freshman Zach Wasserlauf contributed a one-run double with sophomore Blake Dincman and senior Steven Hunt added RBIs in the frame. Sicoli would record another RBI hit in the sixth.

Five different Eagles combined to limit the Judges to one run over nine innings with senior Derek Livingston earning the win with a scoreless fifth inninh. Junior Tyler McLoughlin tallied his fifth win of the year, tossing three shutout innings with six strikeouts.

The Eagles will be off from UAA competition next weekend but not off completely as Emory will host Mississippi University for Women in a three game series at Chappell Park, beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday at noon.
