Halloran & Schwartz Recognized by D3Baseball.com; Halloran Tabbed as NCBWA National Hitter of the Week

Following a historic weekend, two members of the Emory University baseball program were honored on the national level by both D3baseball.com and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America organizations.

Sophomore Jack Halloran and senior Ellis Schwartz were named to the D3baseball.com National Team of the week for their performances at Brandeis as announced Wednesday morning. Halloran would later be named the National Hitter of the Week by the NCBWA in the afternoon following his record-setting weekend. It is the second time Schwartz has been named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week while this marks the first time for Halloran. Halloran is the first-ever Emory baseball player, for any position, to be honored as a NCBWA Player of the Week.

Halloran had a season-defining weekend during the Eagles' record-breaking series sweep over the Judges. The second-year infielder went 13-for-18 (.722) with 15 runs, five home runs, three doubles, 19 RBI and established four different program records. Halloran had three hits or more in three of the four wins, including a 5-for-5 game on Saturday where he launched three home runs, drove in nine and scored five runs, becoming just the second Eagle ever to hit three home runs in a single game.

Schwartz went 9-for-18 (.500) and had a home run in three straight games in the sweep. Schwartz finished the weekend with 12 runs scored, three doubles, one triple, three home runs, 11 RBI and three stolen bases. In Emory's record-setting doubleheader on Saturday where the team scored 62 runs, Schwartz collected seven hits, two home runs and nine RBI. He finished a single shy of the cycle in the first game and a triple shy of one in the second game of the afternoon.

The Eagles are back at Chappell Park this weekend, hosting MUW for a three-game series beginning on Saturday with a doubleheader at noon.
