Emory Baseball Earns Saturday Sweep over MUW

The Emory University baseball team picked up two more wins Saturday afternoon, defeating the Mississippi University for Women Owls in doubleheader action at Chappell Park in Atlanta.

The Eagles won both contests in seven innings to push their win streak to six games and now stand at 22-10 on the season heading into tomorrow's finale. MUW drops to 3-20 following the two defeats. The series will conclude on Sunday with first pitch for game three scheduled for 1:00 PM in Atlanta.

Game 1 – Emory 13, MUW 2 (7 innings)

In a game that was originally scheduled for nine innings, the Emory bats proved too powerful and gave the Eagles their four mercy rule win during the winning streak.

Emory was sparked by a first inning moon shot by senior Ellis Schwartz as his blast cleared both scoreboards in right field and landed on the outfield grass of Cooper Field nearly 430 feet away.

With the scored tied, the Eagles broke out for 10 runs after sending 15 batters to the plate in the third inning. Senior Henry Pelinski, sophomores Jack Halloran, Josh Katz and junior Jacob Grossman all delivered base hits that plated multiple runs in the frame with the big blow coming off the bat of Grossman as he smashed a three-run home run over the left field fence.

The runs were more than enough support for senior Aaron Mishoulam as he won his seventh straight game. Mishoulam allowed just one unearned runs on four hits across his five innings of work. He walked four and struck out two.

Game 2 – Emory 6, MUW 3 (7 innings)

The Owls looked destined for an upset bid through the first three innings of game two, leading by a 3-0 count with starter Josh Mackey holding the Eagles hitless through three.

However, Emory flipped the momentum in the fourth as five straight one-out hits, including three RBI singles by Halloran, junior Tyler McLoughlin and freshman Adam Geller, evened the score at 3-3.

Halloran put the Eagles in front with another run-scoring hit in the fifth before back-to-back RBI doubles from Grossman and Schwartz gave Emory enough of a cushion to close out the win.

Senior Joey Bock won his third decision in a row with five solid innings. He gave up three runs (1 ER) on six hits and one walk while striking out two. McLoughlin notched his sixth save of the year as he retired all five batters he faced, striking out four of them.
