Emory Baseball Takes Down MUW, 11-7, to Complete Series Sweep

The Emory University baseball team made it a clean sweep of the Mississippi University for Women Owls Sunday afternoon, defeating MUW by an 11-7 margin in the series finale at Chappell Park in Atlanta.

Seniors Henry Pelinski, Ellis Schwartz and sophomore Jack Halloran combined to drive in seven of the team's 11 runs as the Eagles won their seventh straight ballgame, the longest winning streak for the team this season.

Pelinski went 4-for-5 with a home run and two RBI while Halloran continued to smash, going 2-for-5 with three RBI and belted his team-leading ninth home run of the year.

Emory feel behind early for the second game in a row before rallying in the third inning with three runs. With one out in the frame, Pelinski and sophomore Matthew Sicoli each had singles before Halloran brought them home with a deep shot to dead center off the batter's eye.

MUW answered with two runs in the fourth off starter Ryan Reynolds but Schwartz had the game-tying hit in the bottom of the inning, driving in junior Jacob Grossman.

The Eagles once again put together a big inning to break the game open, scoring six times in the fifth. Pelinski led off the inning with a solo home run to left, starting a streak of seven consecutive hitters to reach base to start the inning. Freshman Zach Wasserlauf and senior Walker Woolf each had RBI singles before Grossman, Schwartz and Pelinski all drove in runs later in the scoring barrage.

The Owls struck for runs in each of the final innings with the Eagles countering with a Tyler McLoughlin run-scoring single in the eighth to provide the final margin.

Junior Derek Livingston notched his third win of the year with two hitless innings of relief, striking out three Owls.

Emory continues non-conference action on Tuesday, hosting Berry College at 3:00 PM before returning to UAA action next weekend against WashU.
