Emory Baseball Win Streak Halted by Berry

Emory Baseball Win Streak Halted by Berry

The Emory University baseball program saw its seven-game winning streak halted Tuesday afternoon, falling to Berry College, 14-4, in eight innings at Chappell Park in Atlanta.

The Vikings scored in six straight innings starting in the second, including a six spot in the fifth, to defeat their in-state rivals. Berry improves to 16-19 with the win while the Eagles drop to 23-11.

The Vikings used five different hurlers to hold the high-powered Emory offense to four runs across the eight frames, the lowest game total for the Eagles in eight contests. Emory equaled the arms used, with freshman Josh Zuckerman drawing the start and received the loss, allowing seven runs (6 ER) in four innings.

Berry never trailed on Tuesday with Eagles getting close in the third as a two-run single by junior Jacob Grossman made the score 4-2 in favor of the visitors. Emory would get within two runs again with a run-scoring groundout by sophomore Josh Katz. Berry, however then would send 10 batters to the plate in the scoring barrage in the fifth to put the game out of reach.

The Eagles look to rebound this weekend as WashU comes to Atlanta in the de facto UAA championship series. Game one is currently scheduled for 3:00 PM Friday afternoon.
