Eight From Emory Baseball Honored on All-UAA Team

Reigning University Athletic Association champions, the Emory University baseball program, had a bevy of All-Conference selections as announced by the league office on Thursday.

The Eagles had seven All-UAA performers, the most by an Eagle squad since 2017, and took home three major conference awards. Among the group recognized was senior Aaron Mishoulam who became the latest Eagle to be named Pitcher of the Year and freshman Zach Wasserlauf who earned Rookie of the Year honors, the sixth Eagle in the department to earn a UAA ROY award this academic calendar and the fourth in just the last week joining Ashley Chu (softball), Emily Kantrovitz (women's tennis) and Dean Kamenev (men's tennis). Furthermore, Head Coach Mike Twardoski, Associate Head Coach Bobby Perez and Assistant Coach Sam Carpenter were honored as the Coaching Staff of the Year for the second straight time.

To go along with the three major award winners, Mishoulam led a group of four Eagles on the First Team, joining sophomore Jack Halloran, junior Tyler McLoughlin and senior Ellis Schwartz. Three Eagles found themselves on the Association's Second Team: senior Joey Bock, junior Jacob Grossman and senior Henry Pelinski.

Mishoulam has been dominant on the mound in his senior campaign, going 7-2 across 11 starts with a 3.28 ERA while striking out 63 batters in 60.1 innings. He went 7-0 over his final nine starts, including a 3-0 mark in UAA play. In his three conference starts, Mishoulam allowed just two earned runs over 19 innings and struck out 27 batters. One of his finer starts came on the road at Brandeis where punched out a career-best 11 Judges in six innings of one-run ball.

Wasserlauf made an immediate impact for the Eagles in his rookie campaign as he played in 36 games and was in the starting lineup on 33 occasions. He was one of eight starters to hit over .330, collecting 33 hits, with nine going for extra bases and drove in 17 runs. He drew a team-leading 25 walks, with his .473 on-base percentage ranking second on the team, and was 8-for-9 in stolen base attempts.

Halloran, McLoughlin and Schwartz led the charge as Emory posted its best offensive season statistically in team history. The trio combined for 32 of the team's 48 home runs while driving in 145 runs collectively. Schwartz and Halloran both became the first Eagles ever to smash three home runs in a single game while McLoughlin finished the regular season with 12 long balls, placing him second on the program's single-season list.

Schwartz was the lone Eagle to start in all 39 games, leading the team in hits, runs, triples, stolen bases and was a two-time selection to the D3Baseball.com National Team of the Week. Halloran caught fire in the second half of the season, tallying 27 hits with eight going over the fence, while scoring 24 times and driving in 34 runs over his final 13 games. He had a team-best 15 doubles, topped the team with a .704 slugging percentage and tied with Schwartz for the team lead with 52 RBI. He became the first-ever player in program history to be named the NCBWA Player of the Week after a historic series at Brandeis. McLoughlin continued to be a two-way threat as he was one of four Eagles to finish the regular season with 50 or more hits with half going for extra bases (13 doubles & 12 HR). He ranked second in both slugging and on-base percentage and had a team-leading 10 hit-by-pitches. On the mound he was a lights out reliever, going 3-0 with six saves in 13 appearances with 28 strikeouts in 20 innings. He recorded a 1.80 ERA and did not allow a run over his first 11 outings.

Bock had an equally strong senior campaign as he followed Mishoulam in the starting rotation. In 11 appearances, 10 of which starts, Bock posted a 5-3 record with a 3.44 ERA and had 48 strikeouts in 52.1 innings. In four UAA starts, he went 3-1 with his strongest outing coming at Case Western Reserve where he fired seven shutout innings with a career-best nine strikeouts.

Pelinski had a career-best year in 2023 as he was first in the UAA with a .535 on-base percentage and second in the conference with a .435 batting clip. He racked up 54 hits, finishing the regular season on a 12-game hitting streak, and had 10 extra base hits. He was one of five Eagles to draw 20 or more walks to go along with 35 runs scored and drove in 33. In the regular season finale, he became the second Eagle to reach the softball field in deep right with a towering shot against LaGrange.

Grossman rounds out the All-UAA performers with a stellar junior season in which he hit .357 over 36 games. He was one of three Eagles to reach 40 runs scored, was fifth on the team with 45 hits and was third in doubles. Grossman was fourth among Emory starters with a .461 on-base percentage, second on the team 23 walks and stole a team-best 14 bases.

Twardoski and his staff earned their second straight Coaching Staff of the Year honor after guiding the team to a 28-11 overall record, including a 18-3 record over the final 21 games, and set a UAA record for wins with a 13-2 mark. This is the third time Twardoski's staff have earned the honor.

The Eagles await word on their postseason fate as the NCAA tournament field will be unveiled Monday, May 15 at 12:00 PM on NCAA.com.
