Men’s Golf Climbs Leaderboard at Jekyll Island Collegiate Before Play is Suspended; Enter Final Day in Second

The No. 1 ranked Emory men's golf team surged up the leaderboard during the second round of the Jekyll Island Collegiate with a strong round on Saturday, before play was cut short due to rain. Each Emory golfer was able to fit in at least 11 holes before play was suspended.

The Eagles combined to shoot a 183 (-2) before the weather forced play to be suspended for the evening. This brings their combined total from day one and two to 477 (+8). Emory will head into the final round sitting in second-place, trailing Rhodes, who boast a two-day score of 575 (+7). As a team, the Eagles were able to combine for an impressive 11 birdies in the partial round.

Junior Josh Qian bounced back in a big way on Saturday afternoon, having the top score of any Eagle on Saturday. The junior shot 10 over par on Friday but shot a 47 (-4) through 13 holes, having knocked in five birdies and just one bogey. Four of his birdies came on the opening nine holes. Nobody at the event climbed more spots on the individual leaderboard than Qian did on Saturday, going from 129th to 50th. Qian will enter the final day with a cumulative score of 128 (+6) with 23 holes to play.

Sophomore Brian Hanson's strong spring continued Saturday, shooting a 48 (E) through 12 holes of play. He was impressive in his first nine holes, shooting one under par with three birdies and a couple of bogeys. He picked up a bogey on the back half of his round to bring his score even through 12 holes. Hanson heads into the final day sitting tied for 13th place. Hanson will enter the final day with a score of 120 (+1) with 24 holes to play.

Senior Jackson Klutznick was steady during his 11 holes before the rain, canceling out his lone bogey with a birdy to go along with nine pars. He'll carry a second-round score of 43 (E) into the final day. With 25 holes remaining in his tournament, Klutznick's cumulative score is 117 (+3) and tied for 25th heading into Sunday.

Junior Michael Burry finds himself tied for 33rd on the individual leaderboard after shooting a 54 (+3) through 15 holes on Saturday. He tallied five bogeys but picked up a couple of birdies to limit the damage. Burry's score heading into the final day sits at 126 (+4) with 21 holes left to play.

Junior Tony Li rounds out the Eagles' scores from Saturday, shooting a 45 (+2) through 11 holes. Li knocked in one birdy before picking up three bogeys in his round. The junior will head to the final day with a cumulative score of 121 (+7) with 25 holes left to play.

The Eagles will finish their holes to play in the second round tomorrow morning when they tee-off at 7:45 AM. The final round will begin once players have concluded their second round.
