Matthew Schner Tabbed to CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team

Emory University men's basketball senior Matthew Schner was named a First Team Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Tuesday afternoon.

Schner becomes the fifth men's basketball player in program history to earn Academic All-America distinction and the third Eagle to be tabbed to the First Team, joining Neil Bhutta (2000) and Chase Fawsett (2005).

This also marks the 194th Academic All-America honor in the history of Emory athletics and the second during the 2021-22 academic calendar following Emory volleyball standout Tara Martin's Third Team selection in the fall.

Previously recognized as a National Player of the Year finalist and reigning two-time University Athletic Association Player of the Year, Schner adds to his growing list of accolades following a tremendous senior season.

Schner led the Eagles to the UAA championship for a third consecutive season and a trip to the NCAA Second Round as he averaged 23.5 points per game, 8.7 rebounds per game and 3.6 assists per game and set the team's single-season record with 611 points, the 10th-highest total in Division III this year.

The CoSIDA Academic All-America team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. To be nominated, student-athletes must be a key starter or reserve, maintain a 3.30 grade point average, be of sophomore standing or higher, and have attended their current institutions for at least one year.
