Men's Soccer Rolls Past Oglethorpe, 3-0

For the second year in a row the Emory University men's soccer team prevailed in the matchup against crosstown rival Oglethorpe University, defeating the Stormy Petrels 3-0 at the Woodruff PE Center Tuesday night in Atlanta, GA.

Three different Eagles found the back of the net as Emory won its second-to-last non-conference game of the season to improve to 3-4-4 overall. With the defeat, Oglethorpe slips to 3-5-1 as they head into SAA play for the remainder of the year.

Freshman Josh Grand provided all the offense the Eagles would need as he recorded his third goal of the season in the opening stages of the contest. Senior Will Tichy sent a great cross to the center of the box to classmate Zach Kornblum who put a shot on frame. The OU keeper made a nice save on the shot but Grand was right there to finish home the rebound at the 6:21 mark.

Tichy continued the scoring for the Eagles towards the end of the first half as he registered his second goal of the campaign at the 38:09 mark. Tremendous effort from the fifth-year senior paid off as he took the ball from midfield all the way to the goal, slotting home a shot to the near post past an OU defender.

Kornblum rounded out the scoring with his third goal of the year in the 51st minute, putting one through the keeper's legs following a great feed from senior Trey Rielly.

Emory finished the night with a 17-7 edge in total shots and had eight shots on goal. Freshman Keirnan Skelly made three saves in his first career start as he picked up the clean sheet.

The Eagles return to conference play this weekend as they are set to battle undefeated and No. 1 ranked University of Chicago on Saturday, October 8 at 12:00 PM EST in Chicago, IL.
