Men's Soccer Falls in Tight Contest Against Carnegie Mellon

Men's Soccer Falls in Tight Contest Against Carnegie Mellon

The Emory University men's soccer team dropped a tight match against Carnegie Mellon in UAA play on Friday afternoon.

The Eagles record moves to 5-7-4 and 1-4 in UAA play after their 2-1 loss to the Tartans (10-3-1, 2-3 UAA) in which Carnegie Mellon pulled away in the latter stages of the contest.

In yet another physical contest for the Eagles that saw three total yellow cards handed out, Carnegie Mellon was able to capitalize on its few opportunities to help them secure the 2-1 victory over Emory. The Tartans Billy Boucuvalas netted the game-winner in the 79th minute on a one versus one opportunity against the Eagles Peter Wagner that Boucuvalas was able to slip by him to give Carnegie Mellon the win in the physical contest.

Carnegie Mellon punched in the first score of the game with a Jake Kavan shot that slipped between Wagner and the left post in the 39th minute that gave the Tartans a 1-0 lead heading into the halftime break.

The Eagles put their lone goal on the board in the 54th minute on a beautiful through ball by senior Alejandro Gomez to fellow senior Cole Hendricks that Hendricks was then able to poke into the goal from just inside the box. With the game knotted up, play intensified as the Eagles garnered one yellow card as they heavily pursued the game-winning goal.

The Eagles are back in action on Sunday when they faceoff against conference foe Case Western Reserve (7-3-3, 2-1-1 UAA) at 10:00 AM in Cleveland, OH.
