Men's Soccer Draws Rochester on Senior Day

Men's Soccer Draws Rochester on Senior Day

The Emory University men's soccer team's season came to a close Saturday afternoon with a 1-1 draw against the University of Rochester in Atlanta.

The Eagles finished the season with a 5-8-5 record while the tie with the Yellowjackets brought their UAA standing to 1-5-1. Before the game the Eagles recognized the accomplishments and careers of seniors William Knight, Trey Rielly, Zach Kornblum, Will Tichy, Madison Conduah, Alejandro Gomez, Cole Hendricks, Matthew Tanzer, Parker Morford, Luke Price, Joe Beare and Owen Hallauer with a special on-field ceremony.

Outside of a couple of yellow cards, with one per team, in the first 20 minutes the match did not get underway until the 28th minute. With the Eagles backpedaling on defense, Rochester's Nate Lazzara had a ball fall at his feet off a deflected shot from one of his teammates allowing him to net the first goal of the day for the Yellowjackets.

The Eagles had an opportunity to knot the game at a goal apiece towards the end of the first half when junior Alex Mills played a beautiful ball into the box that Gomez got a clean hit on but it clanged off of the right post which saw Emory head into the halftime break trailing by one.

The second half had its fair share of opportunities for both teams but it wasn't until the last three minutes of play that things really heated up.

With the Eagles desperate for a goal, Gomez delivered a strike from 25 yards out into the top right corner that froze the UR keeper and knotted up the game with just under three minutes left to play.

Emory wasn't out of the woods yet as Rochester had one last ditch effort in them, getting a strong change in the closing seconds but Emory's Wagner made an outstanding diving save to preserve the 1-1 tie.
