Swimming & Diving Sweep Emory Fall Invitational

The Emory University swimming and diving programs closed out the Emory Fall Invitational on Saturday with the Eagles sweeping both team wins.

The men came in first across the two-day meet with 652 team points, outgaining Wingate (517) and Carson-Newman (513) while the women tallied 650 points this weekend to top Georgia Southern (497), Carson-Newman (482) and Wingate (381).

After recording seven event wins and three NCAA B Cuts Friday night, the Eagles were back at it on Saturday with an additional six event wins to go along with three more NCAA B Cuts.

For the women, graduate student Josie Uerling was the top performer during the second session as claimed the team's lone event win in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:53.90 – the fastest time by an Eagle so far this season.

Junior Megan Jungers, seniors Anna Glowniak, Caroline Maki and graduate student Taylor Leone had one of seven second place efforts by the team on Saturday and earned the team's lone NCAA qualifying mark of the afternoon, registering a time of 1:44.03.

For the men, the Eagles continued to rack up event wins with five more on Saturday following four event wins during session I.

Junior Ryan Gibbons won his second event of the weekend with a strong showing in the 1,650 Freestyle with a NCAA B Cut of 16:11.01 while graduate student Justin Lum found the win column with a NCAA B Cut of his own in the 200 Breaststroke at 2:01.80.

Seniors Colin LaFave and Pat Pema rounded out the individual winners with LaFave taking the 50 Freestyle with a time of 20.91 and Pema winning the 200 Freestyle at 1:40.87.

LaFave added a win on Saturday as a member of the 200 Medley Relay, teaming with senior Ryan Soh, junior Jake Meyer and sophomore Jeff Echols for a winning time of 1:30.80.

The men's team would add four additional second place finishes and three third place efforts en route to the Invitational win.

The Eagles look to close out the semester strong with the Denison and SCAD Invitationals through December 1-3.
