Emory Divers Open NCAA Regionals; Lucas Bumgarner Wins Fourth Straight 1-Meter

Senior Lucas Bumgarner extended his region's reign on the 1-meter while sophomore Ariana Khan and junior Tess Klugherz finished among the top three in the women's 3-meter as the NCAA Diving Regionals began Friday in Atlanta.

In the first event of the afternoon, Khan and Klugherz headlined four Eagles competing in front of their home fans with both divers earning top three showings. Khan averaged 40.15 across her 11 rounds to finish second in the field of 19 divers with a score of 441.65 just 10.6 points back of day one leader Emma Ng Pack from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Klugherz averaged 37.04 over her 11 rounds to end the day in third place at 407.45.

For the fourth consecutive regional, Bumgarner was crowned the regional champion in the men's 1-meter as he narrowly beat out a pair of Birmingham-Southern divers. Bumgarner topped the 23-diver field with his score of 481.30, averaging 43.75 over his 11 dives.

Seniors Lanah Petrillo and Rose Gertzman rounded out the Eagles in the 3-meter with Petrillo taking 12th at 347.60 and Gertman finishing 18th at 286.30. And in the 1-meter event, junior Alex York recorded an 11th place effort at 385.25.

The NCAA Regionals conclude Saturday, beginning at 12:00 PM with the women's 1-meter with the men's 3-meter to follow at the conclusion. Following the conclusion of day two's dives, the NCAA will allocate six NCAA qualifying spots for the men and five for the women for next month's NCAA DIII Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina.
