UAA Run Ends in Semifinals for Emory Men's Tennis

The No. 7 ranked Emory University men's tennis team saw its UAA run end in the semifinals Saturday afternoon, falling to top-ranked Case Western Reserve University.

With the 5-1 loss, the Eagles (15-5) will play in tomorrow's third place match against either WashU or UChicago, beginning at 8:30 AM. No. 1 CWRU will move to 27-4 on the season and will play for the UAA title on Sunday.

The Eagles notched the lone point of the afternoon in doubles action as juniors Nolan Shah and Samuel Dean earned the 8-6 result at the No. 3 position. On the other courts, the Spartans secured 8-5 and 8-4 results to head into singles with the 2-1 edge.

CWRU maintained the strong play into singles, collecting straight set wins at the top two spots by defeating senior Andrew Esses (6-1, 6-1) on court one and Shah (6-0, 6-0) on court two before Casey Hishinuma defeated junior Brandon Cohen 6-3, 6-0 for the clinching point on court six.

At the conclusion of the match, CWRU held leads at the third and fourth spots while sophomore Emilio Van Cotthem was in front 6-3, 1-5 on court five.
