Four from Men's Tennis Selected to NCAA Individual Championships

The Emory University men's tennis team saw four Eagles chosen to participate in the upcoming NCAA Individual Championships as the selections were announced Wednesday night.

Senior Andrew Esses and junior Nolan Shah, who reached the NCAA doubles championship match as a tandem last spring, will now represent the Eagles in singles this time around. Joining them in Orlando will be graduate student Charlie James and junior Ryan Glanville as they will team up for the doubles draw.

Esses returned to the Eagles in the spring after being abroad in the fall and posted an overall record of 8-7 at the No. 1 position. Shah has settled in behind Esses in the lineup at the No. 2 spot, going 17-4 overall, including an 11-3 record in dual matches. This will be the first time either Esses or Shah has competed in the NCAA singles draw and the first time since 2019 that Emory will have two players in the singles competition.

Glanville and James will look to replicate Esses/Shah's success from last May in the doubles draw following an exceptional spring for the duo. Glanville/James lead the squad with a 21-6 overall record and have gone 15-5 in dual matches. The pairing went 6-0 at the No. 2 spot before moving to the No. 1 line to go 9-5. Earlier in the fall, they reached the finals of the ITA South Regional and qualified for the ITA Cup.

The 2023 NCAA Individual Championships will take place at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida beginning on Thursday, May 18 following the team championships and will conclude Sunday, May 21.
