Men's Tennis Cruises Past Drew, 5-0, in NCAA Second Round

The Emory University men's tennis team is headed to the third round of the NCAA tournament after taking care of business against Drew University in short order Saturday morning in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.

The Eagles downed the Rangers by a 5-0 count in just over 90 minutes to advance the Sunday's regional final to take on either host NC Wesleyan or Washington & Lee for a spot in the national quarterfinals. The match is set to get underway at 12:00 PM.

Senior Andrew Esses and freshman John Lasanajak opened the scoring with an 8-0 whitewashing in 25 minutes before juniors Samuel Dean and Nolan Shah teamed for an 8-1 result at the No. 3 position. Finally, graduate student Charlie James and junior Ryan Glanville, who were both chosen as NCAA Championship Individual participants on Wednesday, rounded out the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win at the top spot.

In singles, Shah and sophomore Emilio Van Cotthem finished two minutes apart for the two clinching points. Both Eagles came through with dominating 6-0, 6-0 scores on courts three and five.

At the conclusion of the match, Emory held control on the remaining courts with Esses in front 6-3, 0-1 on court one, Kamenev leading 6-1, 2-2 on court two, James 6-1, 3-0 at four and junior Brandon Cohen on six 6-1, 1-0.
